David Schwarz, Ph.D., is Senior Director of Science Policy and Evaluation within the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade at the Government of Alberta. David is responsible for science and evaluation policies and strategies, and science and innovation funding program development and evaluation. He is also working on the innovation and technology implementation framework for Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan.

Prior to joining the Government of Alberta, David worked as a research and development scientist at the National Research Council of Canada, and as an innovation and technology commercialization engineer and project manager in private industry. He has worked in the oil and gas, wind energy, and fuel cell (proton exchange membrane, direct methanol and solid oxide fuel cells) fields. He has authored numerous highly cited scientific publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings and technical engineering reports for industry.

David holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, a M.Sc. from the University of Toronto, and a B.Sc. from the University of Alberta, all in Physics. He also holds a M.A.Sc. from the University of Victoria in Mechanical Engineering.
